  15. <p>     ARRAIGNED. Jack Kevorkian, 62, a retired pathologist and
  16. longtime proponent of voluntary euthanasia; for building a
  17. "suicide machine" and connecting it to a Portland, Ore., woman
  18. suffering from Alzheimer's disease; in Clarkston, Mich.
  19. Kevorkian, dubbed "Dr. Death," is charged with first-degree
  20. murder. He had admitted to facilitating the suicide of Janet
  21. Adkins last June, although she alone pressed the button that
  22. released a fatal dose of potassium chloride into her bloodstream.
  23. If convicted, he faces mandatory life imprisonment with no
  24. possibility of parole.
