- <p> ARRAIGNED. Jack Kevorkian, 62, a retired pathologist and
- longtime proponent of voluntary euthanasia; for building a
- "suicide machine" and connecting it to a Portland, Ore., woman
- suffering from Alzheimer's disease; in Clarkston, Mich.
- Kevorkian, dubbed "Dr. Death," is charged with first-degree
- murder. He had admitted to facilitating the suicide of Janet
- Adkins last June, although she alone pressed the button that
- released a fatal dose of potassium chloride into her bloodstream.
- If convicted, he faces mandatory life imprisonment with no
- possibility of parole.
